Viennese art at its best and most vibrant.

One of our reasons for visiting Vienna was to experience and enjoy the art of Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele and others.

We were not disappointed and our visit to the Oberes Belvedere was the first stage of this . There was much to admire and there were several rooms devoted to Klimt including the “Kiss” but I had not seen his landscapes and his earlier portraits. One that was outstanding was “Fraouen Bildnis” a striking study of a lady in a distinctive black dress.

There were many paintings by Egon Schiele and his nude studies were strong and uncompromising. A new artist that we discovered and admired was Ferdinand Georg Waldmuller. A self portrait and a painting of an 80 year old lady were my pick.
