Evelyn and I were delighted to be asked to judge the artwork of the Tadworth Art Group who were celebrating their 50th year. On a very wet evening we arrived to see a very professional set up that was spacious and beautifully lit. The standard was extremely high and judging the two categories was challenging.
We both went round independently and then conferred. We both agreed that Brendan Smith was the winner of the Leisure Painter award with a brilliant watercolour of “Sunset Epsom Downs.” Several of his other outstanding landscapes could also have been chosen.
The Artist award focused on the impact of the picture and whether this reflected the mood of the title. There were several contenders but we decided that a striking painting by Judit Matthews “A Secret Garden” deserved the award. It was a two tone drawing in black and red that intrigued and the detail was amazing.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and hope that some of the very talented Tadworth artists will take part at AppArt 2020 for the first time.
