Peter Newsome PhD, ARBS, RBA became seduced by the unique sculptural potential of glass, some twenty years ago.
He has worked almost exclusively with it ever since, exhibiting widely in the UK and USA.
He is one of only a handful of British sculptors to have been elected to both the Royal British Society of Sculptors and The Royal Society of British Artists, who awarded him the Surdival Memorial Prize in 2007.
Peter’s approach is unusual; using glass engineering techniques he builds robust multi-layered sculptures ranging from desktop works to outdoor sculptures over 2m high These are labours of love, often contain hundreds of carefully shaped and assembled, curvaceous pieces of glass.
Peter says, “Glass is special in the way in which it allows light to interact with both the sculptural form and the viewer, constantly changing as the viewer moves or the light changes. My work emphasises these interplays whilst their forms may also allude to human relationships or the fluidity of natural movements.”
Peter’s clients have included the musician Peter Gabriel, The Hilton Canary Wharf, British Gas- for presentation by HRH Princess Royal, International Corporate Art of Oslo and private collectors in France , Italy, Portugal ,New Zealand & USA.
Peter has appeared on TV and radio and is listed in publications including “Sculptors of the 20th Century” ISBN 1-85928-456-6 and “Who’s Who in Art” 2008-2011.
